What is Brahmacharya
Brahmacharya means using your energy in moderation and not over-indulging. It’s about honoring the divine with yourself and others. You can practice Brahmacharya by being honest about where you spend your energy and what drains you. You should also identify areas where you over-indulge and find ways to practice moderation that work for you.
- How do I spend my energy?
- How can I make the best use of my vital energy?
- When does my energy get drained?
- Where do I over-indulge? (Food? Alcohol? Social media? Work? Sex? Socialising? Etc.)
- Does your mind move a lot? Learn how to slow your thoughts down and calm your mind.
Here are some ways how to practice Brahmacharya:
- Eat slowly and savor your food with your breath
- Take deep breaths while drinking to connect with your body and energy
- Remind yourself that less is more when you feel the urge to over-indulge
- Notice your emotions and thoughts when you feel the impulse to indulge or practice moderation, and record what you learn
- Listen to your body to identify areas where you need to take care of yourself
- Spend 5-10 minutes in silence each day to calm your mind
- Set a time limit for social media and email use and consider removing social media from your devices
- Go to bed early to rest and recover
- Take a day off each week to honor your time, energy, and needs
- Use less physical energy when performing tasks to avoid over-exerting yourself
